Adults
In my work with Adults, I provide a space for folks to delve into their imagination through various arts modalities. It is a space for you. A time to connect with your inner world and your senses. The modalities used depend on what a person is interested in and what they are interested in exploring; sessions look different for every person. For more information please take a look at my individual sessions page and what is Expressive Arts Therapy to learn more about the work I do 1-1 with folks.

Youth
I have worked with youth for many years as a Housing Support Worker at youth centre and as a Child and Youth Worker at a Shelter. My work with youth had included providing emotional support and resources as well as creating and facilitating arts based spaces for youth to connect with their stories and experiences.

Expressive Arts can be a really engaging way for youth to connect with their feelings and their needs by helping us to listen to our inner world. Using the arts (writing, drama, movement, song, visual art, drawing and more) can support youth to connect with parts of their experiences that language isn’t able too. The arts are a beautiful tool to help express what sometimes words alone cannot access. Expressive Arts can help us understand our feelings and process the emotions inside our bodies which can feel really overwhelming and sometimes hard to deal with. I’ve witnessed Expressive Arts be such a powerful tool to support youth who are have experienced a lot of trauma, are feeling depressed, anxious, feeling a lot of anger, feeling overwhelmed and more. Expressive Arts can be a helpful tool to hold pain and work with what is going on inside of the body for a youth in that moment.

Children
Children have such a close connection to their imagination and with play. They are natural storytellers, artists & creative beings. With the children I work with, we engage in creative play using Expressive Arts based Therapy. This can look like working with puppets, sand tray, painting or other visual arts, drama, working with instruments and much more. It really depends on what a child is interested in and what they need in a therapeutic space.

Play is so important for children; to be able to have the time and be in their imaginations is essential for children’s growth and to help process their experiences. I support the kids I work with to have a space to play, to create and delve into the imaginations. Sessions are a time just for a child to express their feelings through creative and imaginative play. I’ve witnessed Expressive Arts be such a powerful tool to support children who experiencing a parents divorce, grief from the loss of a family member, trauma from being displaced, feelings of depressed, anxiety, feeling of anger and more. Expressive Arts can be a helpful tool to hold pain, the feelings and work with what is going on inside of the body for a child.

I have many years experience working with children. I spent four years working at a Women, Children and youth emergency shelter as the Child and Youth Worker. There I organized and facilitated arts based activities, creative play and provided emotional support and resources for the children, youth and caregivers. During the Expressive Arts therapy Program at Langara College, I completed one of my practicum placements at an elementary school, there I worked 1-1 with students.
