Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to be an artist or creative person to participate?

The short answer is No. Everyone is welcome to participate; you don’t have to identify as ‘creative’ or ‘an artist’. EXAT uses different tools to support people to connect into their imagination and I work with the understanding that there are many reasons folks get disconnected from their creativity & imagination. We will work together  and you will start from the place you are where you are at in terms of comfort level and experience with the various arts modalities.

  • How long is a session?
Individual sessions are 60 minutes and 90 minutes. Groups vary in length from 1-3 hours.

  • Will I have to engage in art modalities that I don’t know how to do or am not comfortable with? I’m nervous.
No. Everything is optional and set up in ways that support folks and their various access needs. Work from where you are at. I ask folks be be curious about taking some risks and trying something that may be out of your comfort zone. I'll do my best to set up a safer space

  • Who is Expressive Arts Therapy for?
Expressive Arts Therapy is for everyone. Everyone is welcome and invited regardless of experiences with artistic practices.

  • Is the space scent free? What is the accessibility of the spaces?
Yes. The offices I work out of are scent free spaces. I will always post access info regarding my workshops. If it would be helpful to you to see photos of a space, or know more details about the accessibility of the space, please contact me. I’m very happy to talk about access and how to ensure a space can work for you.

  • I am a white person. Can I work with you? One-on-one or attending a group?

Thank you for your interest in my work. I have centered my practice around working with predominately BIPoC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour). Check in with me if you are interested in working together and I can let you know if I have any space for one on one sessions. Currently my group offerings are designed to be BIPoC only spaces. In the future, I may offer groups that white allies will be welcome to join — when these are posted, the description will be clear about this.

  • What happens to the art I make?
All of your art is yours to keep.

  • I am white and/or I am someone with access to class and economic privilege, I want to support your work and support BIPoC to have access to tools for healing. What can I do?
Thank you! This work isn’t done in isolation and it takes community & resources for folks to have access to many different healing methods. I accept E-transfers that will go directly into a fund for folks that cant afford my services. Please email me with questions or send an e-transfer Hello(at)JotikaHealingArts.com
